Program Essentials
| Item | Purpose |
| Getting Started with Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E | This document provides an overview of the Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E. program, a systematic, research-based approach to teaching reading. It explains the sequence-based structure, skill progression, and use of assessments and differentiated instruction to support all learners. |
| Getting Started Video | This video provides a broad overview of the Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E. program. Watch this before diving into sequence-specific information. |
| Phonics Screener | The purpose of phonics screeners is to quickly identify whether students have mastered key sound–symbol relationships needed for reading and spelling. They help teachers pinpoint gaps in decoding and encoding skills so instruction can be targeted, timely, and aligned to each student’s needs, while also indicating an appropriate entry point into a phonics or literacy program for each student. |
| High Frequency Word Cards | These printable high-frequency word cards show irregular and temporarily irregular words from each lesson. They’re color-coded and labeled with the lesson where each word is introduced. |
| Sound Wall Components | These printable phoneme posters and grapheme cards align with the lessons. Add each phoneme poster to the wall when introduced, then place corresponding grapheme cards beneath it as they are taught (see Getting Started guide for more details). |
| Program Spreadsheet | This spreadsheet includes the pacing guide, a detailed scope and sequence, program training videos, and more. |
| Program Support Manual | This guide helps users navigate the foundational literacy program and prepares trainers to support teachers in aligning instruction with curriculum goals to improve student outcomes, while providing research-based insights, implementation guidance, data strategies, and support for diverse learners. |
| Program Assessments | This is the complete PDF of all program assessments. Also note that the assessments from this PDF can be found within their respective sequence and lesson tables. |
| Teacher Data Trackers | This spreadsheet includes tabs for tracking daily lesson data and guidance for support based on that data. Make a copy to your Google Drive to add student data. |
Getting Started with Sequence 4
| Item | Purpose |
| Sequence 4 Getting Started | This quick guide provides an overview of Sequence 4. Read this to help get organized before implementing the sequence. |
| Sequence 4 Lesson Procedures | These are the detailed procedures for each lesson. Print these and use them alongside the individual lesson plans each day. |
| Sequence 4 Training Video | Coming soon. |
| Sequence 4 Placement Tests | The purpose of placement tests is to more precisely determine where a student should begin instruction within a program after their general skill level has been identified by a phonics screener. While the screener highlights overall phonics proficiency, placement tests drill down to the lesson level, helping teachers pinpoint the exact starting point that best matches each student’s needs. |
| Sequence 4 Reusable Material | This download includes sequence materials that can be printed once and reused (word mapping poster and mat, word chaining mat, word collection book, high-frequency word-forming mat, high-frequency find and cover activity, and monitoring comprehension bookmarks). |
| Sequence 4 Student Progress Tracking | This download helps students track their spelling progress by marking which words and sentences they spell correctly during Day 3 (and sometimes Day 1) progress monitoring activities. It allows students to review and practice words they haven’t yet mastered while reflecting on their performance over time. |
| Sequence 4 Learning at Home in Spanish | The program's Learning at Home sheets are available translated into Spanish. |

Open-Source Curriculum: How to Use Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E.
Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E. is free to use — and we mean it. This curriculum is Open Educational Resources (OER), which means any teacher, school, or district can download, print, and share it at no cost for classroom use. No permission slip required.
- What you can do: Share it, copy it, and redistribute it freely — as long as it's for non-commercial educational use and you credit Laprea Education.
- What you cannot do: Sell it, bundle it into a paid product, modify it, or present it as your own work. "Non-commercial" means no charging for access — not for the materials themselves, not as part of a course, workshop, or product.
- Why it matters: OER exists so every student has access to high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction regardless of a school's budget. That's the whole point.
